Bjorn Solberg is running to represent District 1 in the Minnesota State Senate—because he’s seen firsthand how broken systems hurt real people, and he’s ready to fight for families, farmers, and communities across the region.

Born and raised on a 155-year-old family farm just south of Fargo, Bjorn is the product of rural values, hard work, and generational resilience.

His parents, Warren and Mara, managed the family farm for decades, stewarding the land and raising three children—Brandon, Britta, and Bjorn—with a deep appreciation for responsibility, community, and perseverance.

Candidate for Minnesota State Senate | District 1

As a child, Bjorn helped work the fields, explored the woods, and learned early how family farms operate—not just as businesses, but as a way of life.

He also saw how economic pressure, corporate consolidation, and shrinking margins placed unbearable burdens on farming families like his.

In 2009, after more than a century of operation, his family was forced to auction off their equipment and begin renting their land to neighbors—not from lack of effort, but because the system had stopped working for small farms.

After working in the service industry, Bjorn decided to take a leap and acquired Hugh’s Gardens LLC, an organic agriculture business that collaborates with family farms to provide their goods to local markets—wholesale, retail, and direct sales.

His endeavors are fueled by a strong dedication to enhance local agriculture and foster dynamic regional economies.

Bjorn is a firm supporter of family farms through his storage and marketing enterprise, as well as his participation in the Minnesota Farmers Union at the county level.

Bjorn's parents, Warren and Mara, have overseen their 155-year-old farm for almost half of its lifespan. Growing up alongside his older siblings, Brandon and Britta, he spent his childhood actively working, exploring nature, and valuing the significance of responsibility, teamwork, and determination.

He attended Park Christian High School in Moorhead, where he served as the captain of the basketball team in his junior and senior years. They didn’t make it to state, but they engaged in competition, progressed, and learned how to celebrate victories as a team. He took pleasure in choir and supporting his school’s other sports teams.

Bjorn subsequently graduated from Concordia College with a degree in Secondary Education for Social Studies. During both high school and college, he worked as a substitute teacher and coached girls' basketball from 4th to 9th grade, mentoring young athletes both on the court and beyond.

Bjorn’s commitment to community runs deep. He has served as President, Vice President, and Secretary of the Halstad Business League; sat on the boards of the Western Norman Community Fund and the Red River Harvest Cooperative; and currently serves as Treasurer and Secretary of the Clay County Farmers Union.

In the Fargo–Moorhead area, Bjorn has also worked with the Cass Clay Hunger Coalition and participated in Toastmasters, strengthening both his service and communication skills.

Bjorn Solberg leads with heart and purpose. He steps up when he’s needed, speaks honestly, and works every day to make a meaningful difference for the people he serves.
